Rainbow Theme Week In Review

We had a great week. He learned the colors of the Rainbow, reinforcing the colors he's learned. We used candy, fruit loops, coloring pages and books.
We learned about Color Science trying to "Catch a Rainbow" and Make a Rainbow in a Jar.
We made Rainbow Spaghetti and an awesome Melted Crayon ~ Piece of Art. Just Remember, ROY G BIV.

Next week, we are going to do a Winter Theme. It's supposed to snow on Monday, it's the perfect time.

Here are some ideas we didn't get a chance to try:

MILK RAINBOWS
Click here for details! - these are ones you can drink!
Provide every child with a shallow container of milk.
Place a couple drops of different food coloring in the milk.
Next have the child dip a toothpick into a little dish soap and then dip it into the milk.
What happens? Try it again!

What you need:

Directions:

  • Pour 1 cup of milk into the bowl

  • Add 3 drops of red food color to one edge of the bowl
    • 1/3 of the way away, add 3 drops of blue food color
    • 1/3 of the way away add 3 drops of yellow

Truth Learned: The Rainbow and the Promise
“You see, I have set my rainbow in the sky. This will be the sign of the covenant I have made with you and all creatures, never again to destroy the earth by a flood. It will always remind us of the promise between you and me.” Gen. 9:11-17

So, the next time you see a rainbow, think of Noah and the flood. Remember that God loves you, and that no matter how bad the storm, there will always come a bright new day.

That is God's promise, and God always keeps his promises.

Saturday

Preschool Rainbow Theme ~ Friday

Today, we are making "Rainbow Spaghetti" First, you will need to boil your spaghetti.

Next, you will separate the noodles into how many colors you want to have.

Next, add the food coloring to each container (as much or little as you like).

Mix until all noodles are colored.

Finally, you have Rainbow Spaghetti. I only used food coloring so your Rainbow Spaghetti is edible.

I added it to his water table with bugs, trucks and dinosaurs. I had about 20 minutes of Busy Time.
Our next project, make Fluffy Clouds with our Rainbow. You need elmers glue, foam shaving cream and a piece of paper. (I used shaving cream I had on hand, it was blue gel, white foam would have worked better)
I mixed the glue and shaving cream in equal parts ~ 1:1.
My preschooler, plopped it on his paper to get fluffy clouds. Do not paint it on or overwork it.
He didn't add his Spaghetti Rainbow until the next day, so his clouds melted. He really has fun with the messy activities!

I saw this on Pinterest a few weeks ago and really wanted to try it. Rainbow Week is the perfect time. I picked out a flat canvas 11x14. He picked out different shades of the colors of the Rainbow.

I needed 41 crayons and hot glued each one to the top of the canvas in Rainbow color order.

I had this heating tool from my scrapbooking days, but you could use a hairdryer. I told my preschooler to hold the heater close to the crayon and when he saw it melting, to pull it back a little. He did that all the way down the color Rainbow.

Preschool Rainbow Theme ~ Thursday

We tried to "Catch a Rainbow" today. First, we got a clear jar and a small mirror.

Poured 3/4 cup of water in the jar and placed it in the sun. I think we went out a little to late in the day. The sun was bright, but going down. We could make a reflection but no rainbow today. I am going to try again tomorrow at noon.

We colored by colored dots

He is learning his vowel sounds, so he can start his blends

I read him "A Rainbow Of My Own"
This week has been fun. There were so many great ideas I found and wanted to do. Tomorrow will have a few more fun, Rainbow Themed, things to do.

Wednesday

Preschool Rainbow Theme ~ Wednesday

Are there more purple or yellow skittles? Or green? That was the question. First, he sorted them. Then, he counted them. I lined them up to give him a visual of which colored line was longer. Finally, I called a color and how many he was allowed to eat.

Make A Rainbow in a Jar ~ You need 3/4  cup of water and 3 drops of different food coloring

We also learned about mixing primary colors at the same time. We learned yellow + red = orange .

Then, we added blue and got this purplish color. You can't tell by the picture, but there were swirls of rainbow color. We held it up to the light and looked underneath, it did look like a rainbow through the bottom.  Real cool!
Sometimes, when you find something on clearance, you just want to try it. It fit perfect with our Rainbow theme.

You mix the sand and color activator, pour it into the sand molds and.....

You have glow in the dark sand molds. They really glow....for 4 hours

We colored a rainbow today. We went over the colors, again and reinforced it with crayon, rub art.
He had a great day. Most kids love science experiments and he certainly loves anything that glows. We started on an art project that should be finished tomorrow. I have so many great ideas for this Rainbow theme week, but I don't think I will get to everything this week.

Tuesday

Preschool Rainbow Theme ~ Tuesday

We reviewed our colors with Legos, and built a few awesome swords.

My boy loves him some Legos

We moved onto Skittles colors. They don't have all the colors of the Rainbow, but they taste good.

Skittles Math. Yummy
He is getting a lot of practice with his colors. I am hoping by the end of the week, red will not be cherry and yellow will not be sun. He started learning his colors by the popsicle I gave him. I can understand, it's all my fault by saying the flavor :)

Preschool Rainbow Theme ~ Monday

He matched Fruit Loops with the color sheet from our Busy Bag (Color Recognition and Matching) and ate a few

He counted out Fruit Loops on a number sheet from our Busy Bag, and ate a few

He put Fruit Loops on a string, in no particular order (Variation: You could work on color patterns)

Here is his finished product, they were eaten within 5 minutes. He wasn't exactly ready for lunch after he ate his school :)

We worked on the letter R, its sound and the order of Colors on the Rainbow

We reviewed the colors of the Rainbow by reading Elmo
This week we are working on "Rainbows." Each day I am going have different activities, crafts and science experiments to learn about Rainbows. An easy way to learn the color order of a Rainbow is through a little sentence. Richard of York Gave Battle In Vain or
ROY G BIV.
Red   Orange   Yellow   Green  Blue  Indigo  Violet
