We did lots of "Snowy" arts and crafts

We learned about "Ice Fishing" and polar animals

We froze and melted ice

Finally, we made wet "Snowballs" 

I am glad we are in a state that has 4 seasons, but I will be glad when Spring gets here.

Another Snowflake. It was supposed to be made from cottonballs, but I misplaced them during my organization tornado. I found a torn up piece of  styrofoam and broke it into small pieces. 

I started him off in the form of a Snowflake, then he went his own direction :)

Next, we made snowflake prints. I cut the bottom of a toilet paper roll.

I fanned them out and dipped it in paint

He pressed it down and made a snowflake.

This is the Titanic running into the iceberg, because painting is soooo much fun!

Here is his melted Snowman. Just paint and add a cute carrot nose and googly eyes or whatever you have on hand.

We ended our day by making "Clean Mud or Snow". It's clean toilet paper and water (you can add glitter to make it festive or shredded soap for bubbles). Great for making a wet snowball and throwing it at your brother, which is exactly what happened.

Preschool Winter Theme ~ Thursday

Today, was all about "ICE" I froze his dinosaurs in paper cups so he could play with them.

I also froze some water in the bottom of a milk jug. I wanted him to see the melting process.

So, we added some salt to help the melting along. You could immediately hear the ice start cracking. Way Cool!

Then, we added blue food coloring to see the cracks and melting path better.

I didn't let him know what I was doing the night before, so he was so excited when I asked him to get his school out of the freezer. He played out on his table for a little while. He had some trucks and boats running over the ice. He cracked open the small cups of ice to free his dinosaurs. He had a fun, cold time.

We are learning about some Polar animals today. We used our Tangram Patterns to make a Penguin. You can download your own Tangram here and here.

We also went "Ice Fishing" using our Fishing Busy Bag. You can download your own fish pattern here.

He also felt a little musical today. Here, making his debut is the One-Man Band.

He was having such a good time. Sometimes, noisy = priceless. 

We also did some reading today: Penguins, Penguins Everywhere and And Tango Makes Three. After we finish The Fantastic Mr. Fox, we may start Mr. Poppers Penguins.

He made a snow scene. He used Pom Poms, glue and chalk

Review Shape Snowflakes. I quarter-folded a piece of paper. I drew shapes and reviewed with my preschooler. He cut them out.

He unfolded it and made a beautiful, original Snowflake

Our read aloud is the Fantastic Mr. Fox. When we finish the book, we'll watch the movie :)

Preschool Winter Theme

Well, we had a snow day today, but it was over too fast. It was too warm to accumulate and melted too fast to have any fun, but a snow day was called anyway. One activity I had planned was to  "Catch a Snowflake".
How do you catch a snowflake, you may ask?

You need:

A frozen sheet of black paper (just put the black paper in freezer for about 30 minutes)

Falling Snow

Magnifying Glass

If you catch a snowflake on a frozen piece of paper, it shouldn't melt immediately. You should a have a chance of seeing the pattern of the snowflake with your magnifying glass. I didn't have my paper in the freezer, so I put it in and after 30 minutes, it stopped snowing. :-(

Anyway, the rest of the day my children played and I got some closet organization finished.
