We had such a fun time with green, Shamrocks and Leprechaun's this week.

Lesson Learned: St. Patrick returned to the country that treated him badly. He knew they were not worshipping the one, true God. He told them about God using the Shamrock (3 leaves on 1 stem = the Trinity)

Lessons you could add, that I didn't get to do:

This is our devotion this morning. An explanation of St. Patrick's Day for my preschooler.

Well, Bob was at it again. He tipped over our furniture, taped streamers all over and left gold coins and stickers everywhere he went. My preschooler woke up with stickers on his face and arms. He got into our eggs and milk, turning them green and he even went to the potty and that was a site to see. Did we catch him you ask? Not this year, but we'll get him next year.

St. Patricks Day Theme ~ Friday

This what we've been waiting for all week. Eat the Rainbow

On the back of the box is a game of eating the marshmallows. You eat them until you get to the bottom of the Rainbow.

We did some sorting and color review.

Next, we made a Shamrock and I thought it would be cool to use colored glue. You need glue and food coloring.

I poured a little glue on a plate and added 2 drops of coloring. (You can make a rainbow of colors in your glue bottles)

I mixed well and it's ready to use.

I cut our Shamrock out of wax paper, you can use contact paper if you have it on hand, he spread glue around was paper.

He sprinkled gold glitter and then placed torn tissue paper around the Shamrock.

Our Lucky Shamrock which represents the Trinity ~ God is 3 in 1, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

Another attempt at making a Rainbow. My ingenious 10 yr. old said, "What about using a CD." It worked great.

WHAT ABOUT BOB?

I told you that I would tell you about Bob. When my oldest daughter was in 7th or 8th grade, she had to write a paper. It was probably something boring so I told her, "You have to write this paper, but you can write it about anything you want, as long as you follow the writing rules." She came up with a fantastic story about Bob the Leprechaun that lives in a shoebox, under her bed. Bob made several debuts in her stories that year and now St. Patrick's Day is one of the most celebrated holidays in our home. We hide a green Leprechaun on our Christmas tree, instead of a green pickle, and whoever finds him gets a special prize.  He makes special appearances on St. Patrick's Day and this year we are going to catch him.

My 10 yr. old came up with this trap. You can barely see the motion detector to the left, a line of gold coins and a can that will fall on him when he runs into the pulley.

My oldest daughter made a Leprechaun trap cake. We didn't have pretzels, so hopefully he will just fall in to get the gold.

Sometimes, Bob can be a little naughty, so we'll see what he does tomorrow.

St. Patrick's Day Theme ~ Thursday

We painted our pot today. Then, sprayed it with the glittery hairspray. It looks like a lettuce leaf bowl. If I made it again, I would use 2 cups or more of Plaster of Paris. I would definitely use vaseline instead of the wax paper for a smoother finish. We had a little breakage on the left side and when I find the missing piece, I'll glue it back on :) Tomorrow is the big day! We get ready for Bob. You don't know who Bob is? I'll let you in on that tomorrow.

Preschool St. Patricks Day ~ Wednesday

Today, we made a St. Patrick's Day, squishy, sensory bag. You need: green hair gel (I had orange and colored it green), gold glitter, and Leprechaun confetti

I put in about 1/2 cup of gel. I colored mine green and added a few shakes of gold glitter. I put in 5 confetti Leprechauns.

He got to mix it all up and look for the Leprechauns.

There's One!

What would St. Patrick's Day be without a pot of gold. We are going to make our own pot with Plaster of Paris.

I added about a cup of Plaster and 1/4 -1/2 cup of water. Add a little water at a time. You want it to be the consistency of pancake or waffle batter. Mix to get out all the lumps.

I placed wax paper (you can just coat the bowl with a generous amount of vaseline) in a med. glass bowl. You need a covering to help the plaster get out when it's dry. I placed a smaller bowl, with wax paper wrapped around the outside, into the med. bowl and pressed until I saw the Plaster coming up the side of the med. bowl.

I let sit for 30 minutes, or until it was set and removed it from the bowl and peeled of the wax paper.

I placed it on a wire rack overnight to completely dry. It is very fragile. If any pieces break off you can just glue them back. They are great for decoration, but plaster is porous and bowl should not be used for eating.

We are going to paint it tomorrow and put in the gold!

Preschool St. Patricks Day ~ Tuesday

Today, was cutting and gluing. I drew half hearts and my preschooler cut them out.

3 hearts = a Shamrock

Glitter Hair Spray = Sparkly Shamrock

Reviewing shapes can make a really nice....

Leprechaun Hat! 

The triangles could have been circles. Triangles make a nice, pointed 4-leaf clover. It wouldn't be complete without gold glitter.

St. Patricks Day Theme ~ Monday

Simple History of St. Patrick

Saint Patrick went to Ireland (show children on a map or globe where Ireland is located) to help teach the people about Christianity.   St. Patrick used the shamrock (have a paper shamrock to show the children) as a symbol of the Trinity (God, the Father; God, the Son; and God, the Holy Spirit).  March 17th is the day St. Patrick died and the day we celebrate his life and Ireland.  Show the children a picture of the Irish Flag and discuss what colors are in the Irish Flag.

There is a great preschool pack at 2 Teaching Mommies Today just feels like a worksheet day. We are going to be graphing Lucky charms later in the week.
