Preschool Winter Theme

Another Snowflake. It was supposed to be made from cottonballs, but I misplaced them during my organization tornado. I found a torn up piece of  styrofoam and broke it into small pieces. 

I started him off in the form of a Snowflake, then he went his own direction :)

Next, we made snowflake prints. I cut the bottom of a toilet paper roll.

I fanned them out and dipped it in paint

He pressed it down and made a snowflake.

His Winter, Snowy Scene

This is the Titanic running into the iceberg, because painting is soooo much fun!

Here is his melted Snowman. Just paint and add a cute carrot nose and googly eyes or whatever you have on hand.

We ended our day by making "Clean Mud or Snow". It's clean toilet paper and water (you can add glitter to make it festive or shredded soap for bubbles). Great for making a wet snowball and throwing it at your brother, which is exactly what happened.

Preschool Rainbow Theme ~ Thursday

We tried to "Catch a Rainbow" today. First, we got a clear jar and a small mirror.

Poured 3/4 cup of water in the jar and placed it in the sun. I think we went out a little to late in the day. The sun was bright, but going down. We could make a reflection but no rainbow today. I am going to try again tomorrow at noon.

This week has been fun. There were so many great ideas I found and wanted to do. Tomorrow will have a few more fun, Rainbow Themed, things to do. 

Preschool Rainbow Theme ~ Tuesday

We reviewed our colors with Legos, and built a few awesome swords.

We moved onto Skittles colors. They don't have all the colors of the Rainbow, but they taste good.

He is getting a lot of practice with his colors. I am hoping by the end of the week, red will not be cherry and yellow will not be sun. He started learning his colors by the popsicle I gave him. I can understand, it's all my fault by saying the flavor :)

Preschool Rainbow Theme ~ Monday

He matched Fruit Loops with the color sheet from our Busy Bag (Color Recognition and Matching) and ate a few

He counted out Fruit Loops on a number sheet from our Busy Bag, and ate a few

He put Fruit Loops on a string, in no particular order (Variation: You could work on color patterns)

Here is his finished product, they were eaten within 5 minutes. He wasn't exactly ready for lunch after he ate his school :)

We worked on the letter R, its sound and the order of Colors on the Rainbow

We reviewed the colors of the Rainbow by reading Elmo

   This week we are working on "Rainbows." Each day I am going have different activities, crafts and science experiments to learn about Rainbows. An easy way to learn the color order of a Rainbow is through a little sentence. Richard of York Gave Battle In Vain or

Busy Bag Ideas - Caterpillar Counting

Today we played with the Busy Bag Caterpillar. To make your own, you need: 

 a sturdy piece of rope, knotted on the end

a swim noodle cut into 21, 1" pieces

googley eyes and pieces of pipe cleaners for antennae

We assembled a caterpillar face on 1 noodle piece and drew numbers 1-20 on the other pieces. My preschooler then puts the pieces on the rope. I work with him to get his numbers in the right order, then he takes them off and plays with them any way he likes. 

Busy Time: 10-15 minutes

Popsicle Sticks

My children may not have created images like this with popsicle sticks, but give them enough time and they will come up with some real ingenious ideas. Last night Timmy (9) called me while I was on my way to the store and asked if we still had popsicle sticks and a glue gun. I led him to 3 places they should've been, if we had any, but they weren't there. So, I bought him some. He was going to build a boat that would float. He cut a plastic bottle in half, from the re-use/recycle bin, put some pennies in the bottom for the ballast and started hot gluing popsicle sticks together to finish his boat. He found skewers for his mast and grey tape for extra support and then one final test to see if it floated and It Did! He was so proud of his creation. Then everyone wanted to build something.

Preschooler Variation:

• I bought some wooden skill sticks that have little notches in them and fit together for the preschooler. They are like flat lincoln logs. If all you had was regular popsicle sticks I would opt for taping them together instead of the hot glue gun. 
• They can make letters: A, E, F, H, I, K, L, M, N, T, V, W, X, Y & Z.
• Glue the popsicle sticks side-by-side and let them paint pictures on them. You can have a homemade trivet from your preschooler
